June 21, 2013
Pierce County Tribune

Back again.

The Ericksons from Branson, Mo. are coming back to Rugby on Wednesday to perform at Music in the Park. Both Ron and Opal have performed previously under the Ellery Park gazebo.

Ron is a native of Fargo, and an accomplished steel guitarist. He also knows how to play acoustic and electric guitar, bass, the tenor banjo and accordion. His mother and aunt were both performers; their act, Sally & Sue, had a live radio show in the mid-'40s on WDAY in Fargo.

Opal, who is a natural-born country singer according to their website, grew up in southern Georgia. Her family was full of singers, as well as a guitar-playing brother.

Ron & Opal are both award-winning musicians. They've been awarded the International Duo of the Year award three times (2007, 2008 and 2011) by the Country Gospel Music Association. Last year they received CGMA's Platinum Heart International Duo of the Year Award. Opal herself received the Central Division Female Vocalist of the Year award from CGMA in 2009. They were also official ambassadors for the Roy Rogers & Dale Evans Theater/Museum for three years.

Since 1991, the Ericksons have been living and performing in Branson, Mo. In 2000, they started taking their performances out on the road.

During Ron & Opal Ericksons' performance, members of the Rugby Lions Club will be scooping free ice cream. In the event of inclement weather, tune into KZZJ for info on an alternate location.
