Rugby hosts snowmobiling convention

December 28, 2012
Pierce County Tribune

Northern Lights Trail Blazers were awarded to be the host for the 2012 State Snowmobile North Dakota Convention from Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

On Nov. 30, the SND board met and we held a social at our south warming house. We hired Hartley Bus service to provide rides to and from the warming house since there wasn't enough snow to ride sleds. Bon fire, roasting hot dogs, talk of snowmobiling adventures filled the evening.

Dec. 1 started with annual meeting of SND. Roughly 170 attended the banquet at Dakota Farms/Northern Lights Inn. Grooming classes, signing classes, youth safety classes, avalanche classes were some of the activities that people took in.

There was a banquet held that evening with a number of local snowmobile riders receiving awards.

Mike and Laura Swanson family received snowmobile family of the year, Randy Knain received the Groomer operator of the year, Brad Grove received snowmobiler of the year and Bailey Nelson received youth snowmobiler of the year.

Rugby Eagles Club received Association of the year. Sidney Kraft received the Rhoda Greenup scholarship earlier in the year.

As you can see our club members are very active in our local club and take pride in providing safe trails to ride. We have been established for more than 12 years, and finally received a new Tucker groomer and drag from the state. We have been receiving used equipment from the state in the past.

On Jan. 5, we will be holding our annual Fun Run/ Land Owners appreciation supper. In February, we will holding Bunny Run and Family Day.
