Area student named to NDSU dean's list

An area North Dakota student was among the 164 North Dakota State University students to be placed on the summer 2012 dean's list. From Rugby:Lucas B. Schmaltz, agricultural education.

A student must earn a 3.50 grade point average or higher and be enrolled in at least 9 class credits to qualify for the summer list.

Rugby student receives scholarship

Madeline Cameron, Rugby, has received a $20,000 Honors Apprentice Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Cameron is a daughter of Sheryl and Jim Cameron.

The Honors Apprentice Scholarship awards $20,000 over four years and is given to students admitted to MSUM with a composite ACT score of 28 or higher and in the top five percent of their high school class. The scholarship award will be renewable for $5,000 per year based on satisfactory academic progress and satisfactory participation in an apprenticeship.

Students are required to participate in an educational project of five hours per week and to complete the educational project as assigned by the departmental advisor. The required cumulative GPA is 3.25 for freshmen and 3.5 thereafter.

Minnesota State University Moorhead is a comprehensive regional university enrolling approximately 7,500 students. MSU Moorhead is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

Deckert interns in Hoeven's office

Shelby Deckert, a native of Rugby, is interning this summer in Sen. John Hoeven's Minot office.

Deckert is a senior at North Dakota State University, majoring in political science and public relations and advertising. She will graduate in the spring of 2013 and hopes to attend law school.

Senator Hoeven offers internship opportunities in each of his offices. Internships run during summer, fall and spring sessions. Interns work with the senator and his staff on legislative, administrative and communication projects.

Shelby is the daughter of Randy Deckert, Rugby, and Melissa Deckert, Rugby.
