Sons of Norway brings the culture to the community

September 12, 2011
Pierce County Tribune

The Rugby Sons of Norway is planning a special cultural event for the community on Monday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Rugby Eagles.

The evening will begin with a chili dinner, followed by entertainment and a dance. All are welcome to come and enjoy this event.

The club is sponsoring Olav Crone-Aamot who will speak on "Growing up in Olso during World War II", a book about his experience growing up in Norway as an 11-year old during the German occupation. The book was written by Richard Aamot.

Crone-Aamot is an American who grew up in Norway, served in the Norwegian military and became knowledgeable about Norwegian history. He is the author of "The Norwegian Paper Clip" and "Magnus the Viking". The latter book took forty years of research. He lives in West Virginia and has a working knowledge of six languages.

A musical group from Norway will provide

entertainment and will play for a dance to follow the presentation. Tickets are being sold by Sons of Norway members for this very special event.

The Sons of Norway, which has adopted the Norwegian House at the Prairie Village Museum, likes to work with the museum in mind. An arrangement has been made with the director of the museum to be open for group tours on Monday, Sept. 26.
