September 3, 2011
Pierce County Tribune

The Sand Lake Trail Riders Club took a ride through Medora on Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday, Aug. 20. Club members from age 9 to 71 rode 18 horses through the Painted Canyon, about a 20-mile ride.

Those enjoying the ride were: Heather Beaver, Todd Schwab, Kevin Beaver, Kathy Schwab, Tony Lemer, Ken Hager, Janelle Lemer, Toni Jacobson, Cindy Smith, Aubrey Lemer, Sydney Jacobson, Lynn Smith, Shane Lemer, Kim Smith, Nancy Silliman, Kenny Kuntz, Bill Kuntz, Katelyn Kuntz and Albert Schumaker.

The weather was perfect for the ride. The riders saw a herd of elk, some antelope and wild horses.

One of the riders had a non-eventful encounter with a rattle snake, according to Cindy Smith, club secretary. The rider heard the rattle and moved away.

The Sand Lake Trail Riders have a club of 30 families with members of all ages. The members have grown up on horses and own their own horses. The club takes several rides a year.

Anyone interested in joining the riding club can contact Cindy Smith at 771-1246. The club will ride near Wolford on Saturday, Oct. 8.
