By Terri Kelly Barta

Tammy Wentz, Rugby, is the new executive director of the Rugby Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau. She started on Monday, April 25.

Originally from Rolette, she was home-schooled for elementary school and graduated from Wolford High School. In addition to the chamber, she is also a paramedic in Rugby.

She had planned to accept the position of executive director earlier, but was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident and has been recovering from broken bones.

Her main duties as executive director of the Visitors Center are to set up events that come into town, direct visitors to different parts of the area, keep brochures and souvenirs stocked and provide information.

"I am looking forward to this whole new experience," said Wentz. "I have a lot to learn."

She brings excellent organizational skills and a friendly, outgoing personality to the job. Tammy is married to Todd Wentz and they have two children, a daughter, McKenzie, 10, and a son, Riley, 7.

The Visitors Center is located at 224 Hwy 2 SW, across the road from the Hub. It is actually across Highway 2 from the monument which marks Rugby as The Geographical Center of North America. The center is open from 9 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon - 5 p.m. starting in June.

For now Wentz is learning the ropes of a new job. A little further down the road she may try some new ideas. In the meantime, Don Sobolik, former director for 11 years, is helping with the 125th Celebration scheduled for July.

"People are welcome to stop in and see the Visitors Center," said Wentz. "In addition to information for traveling, there are some really nice Rugby souvenirs."
