River City 6 to perform

Brass quintet with percussion will blow people away

The Heart of America Concert Series is pleased to present River City 6, the world's largest brass quintet, with six members instead of five. The magnetic and hilarious brass ensemble with percussion will perform Thursday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the RHS Tilman Hovland Auditorium.

The River City 6 is a Pittsburgh-based brass ensemble composed of six dynamic performers from the famed River City Brass Band. The band just added an exciting percussionist to the usual quintet configuration of two trumpets, a French horn, tuba and trombone and call themselves the world's largest quintet!

All members of River City 6 are expressive musical artists chock-full of personality and wit. They play a wide variety of musical styles with high-octane energy. Each is a soloist and each adds a special stylistic flavor to the mix. There are moments of great delicacy balanced with great power and some raucous jazz licks contrasted with clean and clear classical execution. They may even sing a few songs.

The mission of the group is to delight the audience with a truly unique concert experience. They have crafted a program that attempts to engage the audience with a good helping of music they know and love, to challenge them with some music they may not know (but just might come to love, as well), and to make the whole experience as much fun as possible.

A sampling of the program would include: a Sousa March, a suite from West Side Story, a xylophone solo, a cowboy/country tuba specialty, an Irving Berlin medley and Just a Closer Walk .
