The Village Arts' spring music season will begin Monday, March 7. Local musicians are invited to join the community music program in preparation for the concert, "Pops Explosion".

A wide ranging variety of music will be prepared for local audiences which includes selections from Broadway shows, fiddle music, Motown tunes and other enjoyable concert fare.

While past members of the string and full orchestras and civic choir are welcomed back, Village Arts also invites others in the greater Rugby area who have a desire to sing or play an instrument to join.

"The desire to make music is the number one qualification for membership in our orchestras or choir," program director Deb Jenkins said. "We want everyone to know that they should not stay at home because they don't feel they are good enough. We'll help and support anyone who wants or needs it, and we are always very glad when people who mayhave taken long breaks from the music scene want to return."

Jenkins further noted that musicians are currently traveling from distances of up to 60-miles away to participate in the music groups. The choir and orchestras are mostly populated by high school students and local adults. This concert marks the Heartland Civic music program's 11th year of operation.

Rehearsalfor the spring pops concert begins on Monday, March 7 in the band and choir rooms at Rugby High School. The string orchestra and the choir will rehearse from 7-9 p.m. The full orchestra, which includes strings and band instruments, will rehearse from 8-9 p.m.
