Heart of America Concert Series presents Edgar Cruz

Each year Edgar Cruz performs over 200 concerts and this year one of them will be in Rugby on Tuesday, Feb. 15 as part of the Heart of America Concert Series. This exciting concert will start at 7:30 p.m. at the RHS Tilman Hovland Auditorium.

Cruz has played throughout America, Europe and South America, and has been a headliner at the Chet Atkins Festival in Nashville since 1995 and is also highly recognized at most festivals in his native Oklahoma. He was a winner of the Fingerstyle Guitar Competition at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kan.

He was raised in an atmosphere of Latin/Mariachi music and inspired by his father Manuel. Cruz' next step was to play classical rock, and then he moved to a variety of styles including classical and pops music.

Cruz holds a bachelor of music in guitar performance from Oklahoma City University. He has been named Oklahoma's Top Performing Artist for over ten years by the Oklahoma Gazette. In 2004, PBS featured an Emmy winning documetary about the life and music of Edgar Cruz. In 2005, Cruz released the instructional DVD "Arranging For Solo Guitar" which is now a best seller on the internet. In 2009, his "Bohemian Rhapsody" video received over 9 million hits on YouTube.

In Cruz' concerts, audience participation is encouragedclapping, singing, dancing, snapping and "oles and yee-haws" are all a part of his performances. His concert will include music from Bach and Beethoven to the Beatles, Big Bands and Irving Berlin.
