Lewis and Clark tops North Prairie

Tribune Staff Report

ROLETTE - North Prairie (Rolla-Rolette-Rock Lake-Wolford) has grown accustomed to winning its season-opener as well as holding opponents' offenses in check.

Unfortunately, it didn't accomplish neither on Aug. 27.

The Cougars couldn't match Lewis and Clark (Berthod)-Our Redeemer's (Minot) score-for-score, losing 42-34 in Class A non-region play.

The Bombers used several big plays to score, or set up touchdowns.

The game was tied at 22 at halftime, but it was the third quarter where the contest turned for the Bombers, who scored 14 unanswered points and never relinquished the lead.

NP did score twice in the final quarter, but it was too little, too late. Cougar senior quarterback Jaden Pfeifer had a big game, going 25 for 31 for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Pfeifer also picked off a pass and returned it 66 yards for a score.

The loss snapped NP's three-game winning streak to begin the season and the 42 points allowed was the most dating back to the 2008.
