August 27, 2010
Tribune Staff Report

TOWNER - Towner-Granville-Upham coach Scott Thorson said prior to the season opener against Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood the Titans defense may be the strength of his team.

The Titans' offense, isn't too shabby, either.

T-G-U scored 26 points while the defense surrendered a late score in the final seconds en route to a 26-7 season-opening victory over the Mavericks on Aug. 24.

Senior running back Travis Smette scurried 22 yards for the opening score in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Tyler Thorson would run for another score and also connect with receiver Levi Black for a third as the Titans built a 20-0 lead at the half. Thorson would run for another score in the third quarter before M-L-S would break the shutout.

Thorson rushed for 143 yards on 11 carries. Smette ran the ball just nine times for 29 yards.

Thorson was three of 10 passing for 65 yards. Levi Black caught all three. The Titans racked up 237 yards of offense.
