Rolette Co. rolls over Bottineau at Section 5 Tournament

July 23, 2010
Matt Mullally

No. 4 Rolette County brought their big bats in their winner's bracket game against top-seeded Bottineau.

The Muskrats hit two home runs in the second inning, scoring five runs that frame en route to a 17-7 victory on July 21 at the Section 5 Tournament in Velva. The first six batters reached base and Jaden Pfeifer and Nic Pfeifer provided the fireworks, both homering in the inning.

Rolette Co. led 8-1 before Bottineau chipped away at the deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, all with two outs.

However, the Muskrats continued their offensive barrage, batting around in the sixth inning and plating seven more runs.

N. Pfeifer went 3 for 3 and walked twice in his plate appearances. J. Pfeifer also collected three hits. Pake Hagen singled twice and drove in three runs.

RC pitcher Josh Casavant fanned six batters and was able to hold Bottineau's big hitters in check for much of the game. His best inning of work arguably came in the fifth inning when he pitched out of a bases loaded-and-no- out jam, giving up just one run.
