The event, hosted by the Growing Place Daycare, features four gardens. New this year, the Heart of America Medical Center's garden will also be a featured tour stop at 800 Main Ave. South.

Helen Laughridge characterizes here garden as an old-English style with a mix of many different elements. Those who attend the tour will see a rock garden made up of many of the large rocks from the area where the house was built, a cascading pond in the back yard that is home to fish, another pond with a bridge and gazebo as well as a vegetable garden.

Helen's garden also features a large variety of flowers.

"Something I tried for the first time this year was dinner plate dahlias," explained Helen. "And there's one blooming now and it's just about the size of a dinner plate."

Helen said she enjoys being outside in her garden and getting in touch with mother nature. "It's just good to be out there and get close to the earth. It's good therapy for the mind and body."

The Laughridge's moved to town about nine years ago and their country home west of town had been featured on the garden tour years ago as well.
