MUNICH - Rugby senior pitcher Pake Hagen gave up just one run on three hits and fanned nine batters in six innings of work, helping the Panthers end their baseball regular season with a 5-1 victory over Munich-Starkweather-North Star on May 18.

Junior Zach Thompson relieved Hagen in the seventh and recorded the final three outs.

Rugby took an early 2-0 in the top of the third inning, highlighted by Ian Keller's double which scored Garrett Thompson. Keller would later score on Andrew Hershey's RBI groundout.

The Panthers would add two more runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth.

Hagen didn't allow more than one Magician baserunner through the first five innings. M-S-NS did put a rally together in the sixth inning, loading the bases with no on out, but Hagen pitched out of the jam, giving up just one run. The Magicians loaded the bases again with no outs in the seventh, but Z. Thompson came in to prevent no further damage.

The win was the Panthers second over the Magicians this season and secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Region 5 Tournament. Rugby also ended its regular season with a 3-3 mark in the region and 11-4 overall.
