Richter runs in Boston Marathon

April 23, 2010
Tribune Staff Report

Former Rugby resident Matt Richter was among the 28,000 who competed in the 2010 Boston Marathon on April 19. Richter, who was less than full-strength, running with a stress fracture in his left foot, finished the 26.2 mile race in three hours, 44 minutes. His parents, Randy and Karen Richter, of Rugby, attended the race.

Richter, 25, is a third-year medical student at the University of Des Moines in Iowa and currently resides in Dayton, Ohio completing a medical training rotation.

He has set an ambitious goal of running a marathon in all 50 states. The Boston Marathon was his 25th. All totaled, he has finished 27.

Karen said Matt's injury was due to his intense training. He elected to run rather than sit out, knowing that it would have been difficult to qualify again for the prestigious marathon which attracts many world-class runners.
