Dufner named Fair’s Volunteer of the Year

Tribune Staff Report

The success of the Pierce County Fair hinges heavily on volunteers - and one of them - was recently recognized for her many hours of service in planning and running last year's event.

The Pierce County Fair Association selected Diane Dufner as the fair's Volunteer of the Year.

"I know many people did a lot to help with the fair, but Diane stood out,' said Don Jelsing, of the fair board. "She spent part of her time contacting people beforehand to volunteer, and she was at the fair before, during and after hours pitching in as well."

Dufner has helped out the past two fairs and is very honored to be recognized.

"I said there are a lot of people who should be sharing this award with me,' Dufner said.

The fair is an important community event and provides another entertainment outlet for many, and that's a reason she became involved. "I'm just grateful to have so many who were willing to help."

Dufner received gift certificates from a few local businesses as part of her award, adding she will be sharing them with her friends who volunteered alongside her.

Jelsing said it's the intent of the association to recognize one individual each year who gave their time and talents to the fair.
