One concert remaining
Just one more concert remains in this season's lineup. The April 18 concert features "Riders in the Sky."
Imagine a group of about 30 men getting together every Monday night for two to three hours to do something other than watch football.
Well, it happens right here in central North Dakota with The Centennial Singers. The group formed in 1999 when the centennial celebration of Anamoose approached.
They will take the stage in Rugby as part of the Heart of America Concert Series lineup on Sunday, Feb. 21. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Rugby High School Tilman Hovland Auditorium.
Since 1999, the group has evolved to consist of 35 men from all walks of life, and several communities in central North Dakota. From Anamoose, Drake, Harvey, Hurdsfield, McCluskey, Goodrich and Heimdal, men gather together on Monday nights at First Lutheran Church in Harvey, to rehearse and enjoy fellowship with one another. They are currently under the direction of Ted Sitz, a long-time music educator in the Harvey Public School system. The name, "Centennial Singers" has stuck from the very beginning and so has another common theme: Men who love to sing!
The choral group has developed a distinctive repertoire of music which has been adapted for the tonal characteristics of the male voice. The Centennial Singers have performed for many community and regional audiences including: performing the National Anthem at a Minnesota Twins game, singing German folksongs for the Prairie Public Television series "Germans from Russia", singing joint concerts with the Heritage Singers of Minot, singing for the Verendrye Annual Meeting, along with annual Christmas and spring concerts at First Lutheran Church in Harvey.
To attend this event, a concert series membership is required.
