Sausage, art and wine may seem like an odd combination at first, but it will all make perfect sense at the SAW Festival in Towner on Jan. 30.

Spend your Saturday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Main Street sampling sausage and wine while enjoying art and vendor displays.

The event, sponsored by the Sandhills Community Health Center Foundation Board, is a fundraiser for a potential dental clinic within the facility.

The evening will include a sausage tasting contest featuring the recipes of 10 local cooks. The public will vote on the best sausage. The top three will be awarded cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50. So far, seven people have entered the contest so there's room for just a few more.

One of the event planners and Sandhills Community Health Center employee, Kelly Livedalen, said the idea for the event came about as a way to reach the public with information about the health center.

Livedalen said the combination of sausage, art and wine seemed like a fun combination to attract a wide variety of people.

There will be art on display by local artists Andy Knutson and Tam Goodman-Wisthoff.

Vendors will also be on display with such items as food, jewelry, embroidered dish towels and other hand-made products. Displays include Tastefully Simple, Tumbleweeds and Turquoise, Arbonne and Prairie Stitches.

The wine tasting will feature products from the Dakota Hills Winery located east of Rugby. There will also be wine for sale.

There will also be a cash bar available by Longhorn Bar.

Admission is $10 per person. Proceeds will be used to benefit a potential dental clinic at Sandhills Community Health Center.

Livedalen said the foundation board is still in the planning stages of working on bringing dental care to the local facility.
