A clean slate

R-W looks to shake losing streak in January

Tribune Staff Report

Rolette-Wolford ended December on a six-game losing streak and the Comets would like to see that quickend in the new year.

After a stretch of 10 games in three weeks, the squad has had two weeks to rest and regroup.

R-W resumes its schedule this Monday, Jan. 4 when it hosts Rugby - a team also looking to shake a losing streak. Later in the week the team travels to perennial district power Langdon.

Despite its 3-7 record, the Comets have played well in stretches, but will need to put together more consistent efforts in the final half of the regular season and postseason.

M-Leeds needs more consistency

Minnewaukan-Leeds entered the holiday break with a disappointing loss to Maddock, snapping the squad's four-game winning streak.

The Lions (5-3) hope to get back in the win column today, Jan. 2 when it travels to Edinburg. M-L's offense has been sporadic during its first eight games and that will need to improve as the team will face some strong opponents this month.

Rugby looks to rebound

Rugby won three of its first four games, but presently are on a four-game slide, and that's not what the Panthers (4-4) wanted heading into district play.

Following its game with Rolette-Wolford on Jan. 4, six of Rugby's next seven games are against district foes.

The formula for success thus far has been winning the battle on the boards, getting perimeter scoring.

When the Panthers have struggled in those areas, they have ended up on the losing edge, and that was again evident in their home loss to Harvey on Dec. 29.

T-G-U needs more Offense

Forty is the magic number for Towner-Granville-Upham, 40 points that is. All three of T-G-U's wins have come when it has scored 40 or more points. So, getting more offensive production is one of the points of emphasis in its remaining games.

Towner-Granville-Upham travels to defending district champion Bottineau today, Jan. 2 for its district opener. The T-G-U co-op has never defeated Bottineau.

Notes:?Minnewaukan-Leeds will play nine games in January...Rugby and Drake-Anamoose will play for the second time this season on Jan. 8...Beach remains No. 1 in the latest Class B state poll...Westhope-Newburg pulled off a big win, knocking off No. 7 ranked Rolla-Rock Lake team on Dec. 22.
