Monson to receive achievement award from Concordia College

September 3, 2009
Tribune Staff Report

Rugby's Glory Monson is going back to school.

And with good reason.

Monson is being honored by her alma mater Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. The 1958 graduate is receiving an Alumni Achievement Award from the school at its homecoming banquet next month.

She's not sure just how she was considered for the honor, but it was quite a surprise.

"Surprised is an understatement,' Monson said. "It's quite a honor to recognized this way."

Monson is the founder and has been artistic director and creative force behind Village Arts, Inc., in Rugby for more than 40 years.

According to press release by Concordia, Monson is a community builder, an exemplar of excellence, a versatile artist and a motivator to generations of young people. Village Arts programs include musicals, children's theatre and an orchestra with musicians ranging in age from grade school students to senior citizens.

Glory said much of the credit behind Village Arts' longevity and success has been the people who help make it happen, including Deb Jenkins, who has worked side-by-side with Glory for many years on Village Arts' musicals.

"Somewhere I heard the secret to success is surrounding yourself with a lot of talented and bright people, and I guess I've done that,' she said.

She will be presented the award on Friday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the college's Memorial Auditorium.
