Rugby cheer team members receive honors at camp

Six nominated, three chosen to be part of NCA All-America squad

August 21, 2009
Tribune Staff Report

Six members of the Rugby High School cheerleading squad were nominated for the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) All-America Team, and three were selected at a cheer camp held earlier this summer in Rugby.

The six who were nominated were: Paige Haman, Emerald Collins, Rachel Allickson, Jessica Jaeger, Taylor Everson and Lexi Everson.

Those six were then part of a tryout to determine who would be selected for the All-America Team. Haman, Collins and L. Everson were chosen.

An NCA instructor, who ran the camp, made the selections based on the cheerleaders' jumps, motions, dance, technique and attitude, according to Deanne Nelson, Rugby cheer coach.

Haman, Collins and Everson will have the opportunity to perform at one of a number of upcoming national events later this year, including the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade or at halftime of the Hawaii-Navy football game in Honolulu in November. The cheerleaders, however, will need to pay their own way and some have looked into raising funds to pay their expenses.

Fifteen Rugby cheer team members participated in the Rugby camp.
