What's Happening?

January 30, 2012 - Terri Kelly Barta
Rugby woke up to 4" of snow on the ground last week and I think I heard the sound of snowmobile engines roaring to life for the first time this winter in this area. January has been mild to say the least. The four inches of snow we got is about the total snowfall for all of January and temperatures have been in the teens and above. It is Balmy here in Rugby, ND. with the expectation of 30-40 degrees above zero predicted for the last day of January. We almost called the snowbirds and told them it's time to come home. Meanwhile, Rugby is hopping with activities. Last week we had the Creations Auction to support the Hospice program here. And what a gala it was. Watch the Tribune for totals of money raised from this generous area. On Saturday, Jan. 28, the sausage contest, supper, and auctions were held and a good time was had by all. There is never a dull moment in Pierce County. They do not believe in hibernating for the winter, that's for sure. We can't hibernate this year, anyway, it is too warm. Very little snow means very little moisture so farmers and ranchers are smiling this winter, too.
